The practice is, however, best known for its expertise within the aviation space, where it is well placed to handle the most sophisticated mandates in the market by virtue of its ability to leverage its strong capital markets and structured finance expertise, as well as a wide-ranging international network. Harry Upcott has strong ties with many operating lessors and has recently been very active advising on several big-ticket portfolio transactions. Outside of the aviation sector, Kevin Young has a strong pedigree within the shipping sector and has recently advised numerous different funds on the acquisition of shipping portfolio loans. The 'responsive and knowledgeable' Mario Jacovides heads up the overarching global structured and asset finance group, which also includes Jonathan Bevan, who has 'vast rail experience'.

Hogan Lovells International LLP
Following the departure of rail finance expert Simon Gwynne to Norton Rose Fulbright in June 2019, Hogan Lovells International LLP is now primarily focused on cross-border work within the aviation sector. The 'outstanding' Robert Fugard leads the asset finance practice and benefits from strong ties with a varied array of stakeholders including airlines, banks and leasing companies. Other key partners in the team include Richard Goss, who also focuses on aviation finance.
Les références
‘Robert Fugard’s team is highly knowledgeable, diligent and persistent.’
‘Absolutely top notch technical ability and knowledge combined with a personable hands-on and bespoke approach are their hallmarks. It is rare to find such a combination of close relationship and attentiveness with the capabilities of a large global firm.’
‘Robert Fugard is an outstanding lawyer in his field. He possesses a work ethic, intellectual integrity and forensic approach to his work second to none. His work is of the highest quality and, perhaps less expected of a lawyer, he demonstrates a very high standard of business acumen, often identifying and suggesting complex commercial ideas and solutions in response to clients’ problems.’
‘Senior associates Russell Green and Gwen Edwards provide solid and reliable support – they are always able to keep the client happy and are excellent communicators and deal managers. Their documentation skills are exemplary and over the years I have gradually seen them grow into their current roles, assuming greater responsibility over time. The firm is extremely professional, responsive, thorough, capable and client focused.’
‘The team is in a class of its own in terms of intellectual rigour and work ethic. Professional to the core and a pleasure to work with. Always willing to challenge convention and go the extra mile to do the best deal for their clients. They are an intellectually outstanding firm.’
‘Richard Goss and senior associate Faraz Naqvi are the type of excellent lawyer who can give you the feeling of having learned something just by working with them. And working with them both is a pleasure, as they are genuinely enjoyable to spend the hours on the phone or travelling with for negotiations.’
‘All members of the team are a pleasure to work with and all complement each other in terms of skill sets. They are particularly strong on deal management; aircraft finance transactions typically have a finite deadline (the sale or purchase or delivery date of an aircraft) and so there is always significant pressure in managing other parties who may not necessarily be as time-focused. Robert and his team are extremely capable when it comes to meeting deadlines and are excellent deal managers.’
