Licks Attorneys centres its IP practice on patent litigation, representing multinational and international clients in the biopharmaceutical, telecoms, and electronics sectors in high-stakes disputes. The team also frequently advises patent holders on compulsory licensing and other critical matters. The practice is led by founding partner Otto Licks, an expert litigator and policymaker who focuses on preliminary and permanent injunctions, as well as the monetisation of patents, trade secrets, and unfair competition cases. Carlos Aboim, co-founder of the firm, jointly leads the practice with a focus on IP litigation in the life sciences and IT industries. Co-head Liliane Roriz has played a key role in landmark IP cases, including those involving ANVISA’s role in prior approval for pharmaceutical patents, second medical use patents, pipeline patents, and tech-related patent disputes. Gabriel Mathias is also noted for his commercial litigation experience involving patents and trade marks. Ciro Albuquerque, Roberto Rodrigues, and Tatiana Machado left the firm in 2024.
